Contain Yourself This Summer

Do you, like me, get an itch to reorganize and freshen things up when you are stuck inside?

This past week, during some thunderstorm-y afternoons, I got out the paintbrush, rolled up my sleeves, and did something I've been planning to do for over a YEAR in my kitchen!

Pictured is an image next to a caption. The image is of a painted cabinet in a kitchen. The caption reads, "Here is a 'before' photo of the little cupboard we use as a pantry for dry goods in our English-cottage-style-kitchen. Because the doors are open air (we took the glass out long ago), the food is really on display - and therefore the cabinet was useful but not particularly beautiful before its transformation."

Prior to this, we had a cacophony of color in the kitchen, and I needed to quiet it down. This was accomplished in two ways: First, I painted this piece plus other things in the kitchen the same soft green/gray color. Second, the disarray of the contents was tamed by putting the food into pretty French jars.

Pictured is an image with a caption. The image is of a painted cabinet. The caption reads, "Same cabinet, new color, and same contents - just contained more efficiently and in a prettier way. (And we found the cabinet's top and painted it!) Don't you find the food product itself way more visually appealing than the packaging most things come in? Bonus: I now know how much of each item we have left!"

So useful AND beautiful, which you know is close to my heart!

Pictured are the contents of a painted pantry cabinet.

The whole kitchen has a teensy way to go before I share the rest of it, but it sure feels good to have this little corner spiffed up. It brings me joy and makes everyday life simply more beautiful!

Have you done any fun "done-in-a-day" projects this summer? I'd love to hear! Email me at amy@thehareandthehart.com and let me know!
