I'm having a lavender emergency!

"Oh, I'm so glad you're here! I am having a lavender emergency!"

These words coming from over my shoulder almost startled me on a lovely morning a few years ago as I turned the key and heard the familiar jingle of the bells hanging on the shop door.

A beloved customer had been waiting next door at Grassroots Coffee Shop for 10:00 to roll around so she could get her fix of some of our lovely lavender products. And I could not have been more delighted to help her!

My day always starts with the soothing, yet invigorating scent of this gorgeous herb. The photo above is one I took in our home's garden, right next to our front steps. Can you see the bumblebee? 🐝 (And yes, we've found a type of lavender that thrives in our South Georgia climate!)

Then, my day continues by being surrounded by lavender bunches, soaps, candles (and much more) at the shop. Because we source our high-quality products from the lavender fields of southern France (and even the wine region of California ~ makes sense, doesn't it?), the scent in the shop is not overpowering, but it softly embraces and settles the soul.

Last, my days usually end on a soothing note with a hot bath featuring Savon de Marseille (and possibly even bath salts), then a cuppa that contains the calming herb, followed by a spritz of room spray.

Lavender has been revered for centuries, not only for its beauty, but for its therapeutic qualities. It offers various benefits, such as helping reduce anxiety and stress, promoting relaxation, and improving sleep quality.

It also possesses antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it useful for skin conditions and wound healing. Originating from the Mediterranean, its Latin name is derived from the verb lavare ("to wash"). These stunning blocks of Savon de Marseille (made the same way since 1688) are enriched with shea butter, which has moisturizing, soothing and anti-wrinkle properties.
