Ooh La La ~ Happy August

Oh, my goodness ~ it’s finally August! And while autumn is still far off (especially here in the Red Hills of south Georgia) its promise is just that little bit closer!

School begins here this month, and we are already opening shipments of fall items. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep the spicy scents contained in the storeroom for long!

My heart is happy.

Speaking of happy, are you watching the Olympics? We
are, as much as we can!

With all the streaming available, it's nice to enjoy some sports we don't usually get to watch, out-of-the-mainstream competitions like group handball and badminton.

My traditional favorites are the equestrian events, gymnastics, and swimming. Chris gets most fired up about track and field.

How about you?

I have to say, watching the magnificent pairings of horses and riders in the spectacular environs of Versailles has got me itching to ride again!

Pictured is an image with a caption. The image is of a professional horseback rider going over a jump. The caption reads, "A few years ago, The Blenheim Palace International Horse Trails were going on while we were there. There is nothing like seeing a world class 3-day event in person!"

As a youngster, I enjoyed participating in the aforementioned gymnastics and swimming, but HORSES were my passion.

In past eras of my life, I've trained and/or competed in equestrian events myself: in rodeos as a teenager, and schooling in eventing as a 30-something.

Pictured are two images with captions. The first image is of a young girl riding a horse. The caption for the first picture reads, "Yes, that's me, age 14, hair flying and teeth gritted, racing to the finish line in barrel racing. This was in Spain, but that's another story!" The second picture is Amy Hart riding on a black horse. The caption reads, "Astride my beloved steed, CC. A master at all things eventing (dressage, cross country, & stadium jumping), he taught me a lot."

But right now, owning a horse again is beyond my bandwidth, so... does anyone out there have a horse that needs exercising from time to time? (If so, give me a ring!)

In that sporting spirit and in honor of all things French during the Paris Olympics (don’t you just love seeing the vistas and sites of the city of lights in between events?), we’ve pulled together some fun Francophile favorites to adorn our shop windows this week.

Happy August!

xo,
