What do velvet bees, nubbly tweeds, and classic William Morris fabrics have in common?
"Autumn's song is sung by burnished leaves as they dance in the breeze and begin to flutter free from trees. Psithurism, the term for the sound they make rustling in the wind, comes from the ancient Greek word for whispering...." - Country Living British Edition, September 2025
Hello friend,
We've gently settled into October here in the Red Hills of south Georgia, and every once in a while, a hint of quintessential fall weather whispers to us, just as it's doing this morning.
I am glad to have found a word for this lovely autumnal sound: psithurism. (See the description above, from one of my favorite monthly reads, the British Edition of Country Living Magazine.)
Yesterday I drove to Tallahassee (just a hop from Thomasville) to meet with Jenny of Honey Bee Fabrications in her studio to see what she's been cooking up (or would that be "sewing up?") for next Saturday's Meet the Artisans event at our shop.
I was also dropping off some lovely fabric for items I am commissioning from her, and as we unloaded the yardage from my car, we both celebrated the breezy, blustery atmosphere, complete with scuttling clouds.
So. Very. October.

What is also so very October and autumnal are the rich designer fabrics that Jenny showed me. She has been gathering them for the curated collection debuting at our event on October 18th.
Lovely items made of luxurious velvet bees, nubbly tweeds, and classic William Morris fabrics are heading to our shop next week, and I absolutely cannot wait for you to see what Jenny has turned them into, all perfect for fall and holiday decorating and gift giving.

In addition, Sarah of The Tuckered Elephant will bring Christmas-themed pillows, Christmas pennants and stockings made of vintage fabrics, and of course, her ever-popular totes made of antique European grain sacks. (You seriously can't have too many ~ I myself have three!)

I know you love high quality, locally-crafted artisan gifts and goods, and there is nothing like meeting the maker whose imagination designed and whose hands meticulously created these lovely, heirloom-quality items.
We are so pleased that we can welcome you to the shop next Saturday from 10-5 to meet Jenny and Sarah and to get a head start on your holiday shopping (as well as scoring a thing or two for your own self or home!)
xo,

PS: After the Meet the Artisans show, any items that we still have will be added to our website and also available in the shop!
PPS: This is just the beginning of our fall events! We have even more opportunities to meet other creatives and shop their wares for the holidays, and we are always adding more workshops in the Atelier at the back of the shop (see them below). Please join us this autumn!
