No matter what you call it, I highly recommend it!
"There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort." — Jane Austen,Emma
Happy summer Friday!
This past winter, I pulled out my watercolors and created a cozy picture of a stone cottage, pairing it with one of my favorite quotes, “There’s nothing like staying at home for real comfort” ~ which appears in Jane Austen’s 1815 novel, Emma.
While my painted interpretation depicts a cozy domestic scene (totally up my alley!), I’d now like to suggest reimagining it for summer as a case for “staycationing” ~ slowing down and deliberately appreciating where you live when you have the blessing of a day (or two or three) off.

The concept represented by this portmanteau combining “stay” and “vacation” has been embraced by people everywhere as a way to explore your own area, to slow down and relax, and to go on holiday without the hassle of traveling.
I’ve also heard it called “nearcation”, “holistay”, “daycation”, and even “microtourism” ~ so clever! But no matter what you call it, I highly recommend it.

I recently had the opportunity to host some longtime friends from Tampa here in Thomasville. I’d consider this visit a “nearcation” for them and a “holistay” for me!
We began our day with a stroll through the historic district, some of whose beauty I shared with you in last week's email (which is now a blog post in case you missed it!)
After that, I showed them some of my favorite downtown spots, most of them without walking more than a block or two from our shop, which itself is a stone’s throw from our home!

Of course, these are but a few snapshots of all we experienced, which itself didn't make a dent in what we could have done.
This town packs a huge punch when it comes to unique independent businesses. There truly is something for everyone!
If you haven't been to Thomasville's downtown lately (whether it's for a staycation day ~ or as a true vacation destination), I highly endorse it. You'll be in for a real treat.
And while you're here, come in to The Hare & The Hart to say hi! We'll be happy to show you what's new in the shop, and to share our fave Thomasville recommendations.
xo,
